L'Occitane en Provence Repairing Shampoo & Conditioner Review!

Hi Everyone!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on sample sizes of L'Occitane en Provence's new Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner as part of a sign-up promotion (which I think has now ended) to their VIP Programme. The VIP Programme is basically a loyalty programme that is completely free to sign up for, and you'll be sent info about introductory offers, get first dibs on the sales etc - that sort of thing!

Now, on to the products! I think a fairly generous amount was given in this mini bottles - 35ml for a high-end product. As you can probably see from the photo, I have already used both the shampoo and the conditioner for two washes. I have just below shoulder length hair so I expect these samples to last me a week and a half, maybe slightly less or more depending on how often I was my hair, which I think is pretty good.

APPEARANCE: I'm a sucker for pretty packaging, so these small sample bottles with little capped lids get a bit thumbs up from me! The full-size bottles also have this feature, and big clear simple labels are always a plus.

SMELL: Both Shampoo and Conditioner have a blend of 5 Essential Oils - Angelica, Lavender, Geranium, Ylang Ylang, and Sweet Orange  The conditioner also has the addition of Sweet Almond oil. Not only are these all great for your hair, but they blend together to create a fresh, clean-smelling scent that is lightly floral and also has a very slight spicy note - that all sounds a bit odd but I really liked it!

DID THEY WORK?: Upon application, the texture of the shampoo feels really soft and forms a gentle lather. In addition to the essential oils, both the shampoo and conditioner are sulfate free, which is great news for your hair (the products won't strip your hair of its naturally occurring oils and therefore won't dry it out, and also won't fade coloured hair as quickly as sulfate-containing shampoos and conditioners), and it really feels like you're doing something good for your hair - like a mini luxury treatment!

Above is a photo of my hair after washing with the products, left to dry naturally and with no styling. It's a little on the fluffy side but always is, I usually use John Frieda's Frizz-Ease Orignal Serum after rinsing out conditioner but thought I'd review the shampoo and conditioner results without it. My hair very, very soft and smelt lovely! However, I found that the smell didn't linger in the hair for long, jut a couple of hours, which in my opinion was a shame. The flash on my camera has picked up quite a shine from my hair, which is good - who wants dull hair? Haha.

PRICE: As I said, I obtained these samples for free, but full-size bottles of the products cost £15 each - the shampoo contains 300ml and the conditioner contains 250ml. Sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners are always a bit pricier than regular ones, but these two are a quite a bit more. I do really like these products, but I think I'd need a bit more convincing to persuade me that they were worth much more than £10.

Overall, I have really enjoyed using these L'Occitane products - I loved the smell and how they made my hair feel. However, as hair 'repairing' products, I expected them to make my hair feel nourished and restored, and I felt that my hair felt very soft but in the kind of way leaving a conditioner on for ages feels, and that nothing else had really been added to it. Maybe with continued use I'll change my opinion! Also, at the price of £15 a bottle, it's a little out of my price range, and if I were to purchase the products they would be as an occasional treat rather than to replace my regular shampoo and conditioner. So, it's not that I didn't like the products - I really, really did! It's just that, in my opinion, they weren't all they were cracked up to be.
